Salvation, Islands, and Gandhi

I relieved a survey from a student who was writing a paper on what different denominations believe. His questions in the survey are below. What are your answers?

Hi, my name is (name of sender) and I am doing a research paper on different denominations and their beliefs. I was wondering if I could ask a few questions about your doctrine and beliefs as a Southern Baptist congregation.

First,
How do you receive salvation?

Second,
If a man were on a desert island and lived and died without hearing the Gospel, where would he be? Heaven or Hell?

Third,
Gandhi lived a moral life and he said that he liked Jesus and His ideas. Does this mean that he is saved?

Great discussion questions. I have been telling a bunch of people about this. I hope to hear some thoughts on it soon.

1) How do you receive salvation?

Salvation is received by responding to the gospel message through personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. Salvation is offered freely to all who trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood, paid the penalty for our sins. Salvation is repenting (turning from) my sin, and trusting in Christ alone to save me.

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. HCSB

2) If a man were on a desert island and lived and died without hearing the Gospel, where would he be? Heaven or Hell?

Sadly, the man would go to Hell.
Acts 4:12There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved." HCSB
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ. HCSB

3) Gandhi lived a moral life and he said that he liked Jesus and His ideas. Does this mean that he is saved?

Liking Jesus and his ideas does not save a person. Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ through the grace of God.
Eph 2:7-10 For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God's gift- not from works, so that no one can boast. HCSB
